In Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, M.D., with a foreword by Dr. Mehmet Oz, M.D., Dr. Fuhrman provides a comprehensive overview of human nutrition, examines the problems with the standard American diet (SAD) and explains in-depth how food choices not only have the power to either cut short or add many years to our life - but also how poor choices lead to obesity and chronic disease.
Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live formula (consisting of a Six Week Plan and a Life Plan) is, indeed, designed for rapid weight loss. However, unlike fad diets, his plans offer a way for an individual to find and maintain his or her ideal weight and, just as importantly, to prevent (even reverse) chronic illness and disease. The formula is one of nutritional excellence that has been based upon numerous scientific studies, many of which are explained and referenced throughout the book.
Upon reading the entire book, you will gain an understanding of why following the simple plan presented in the book makes sense for both weight loss and optimal health.
The plan is based on eating a large volume and a wide variety of nutrient-dense, plant-based whole foods. Frankly, I don't see how one cannot NOT lose a lot of weight following Dr. Fuhrman's formula. Nevertheless, some people may say that it is too "restrictive". While some may think so, the fact is that very often, remarkable results require drastic action and change. This, in turn, requires making a commitment. Not everyone is willing to make that commitment. But, it is my belief that, whether or not you actually try following the plan, you will gain important insights into nutrition, health, disease and obesity by reading this book.
