Walking is considered one of the best forms of exercise and is a great way to stay in shape.  It is a particularly excellent choice for overweight or obese individuals who need to lose weight.  Walking gets people moving.  It is a low impact activity that has a lot of health benefits like this infographic illustrates:

Boosts endorphins (the "feel good" brain chemicals)

Reduces stress and anxiety

Limits illness (like the risk of catching a cold)

Reduces the risk of Glaucoma, Alzheimer's Disease and colon cancer

Improves circulation, blood pressure, balance and heart health

Builds bone mass, strengthens the legs and engages abdominal muscles

Burns more fat than jogging
It is recommend that everyone walks 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week.  Individuals who have certain medical conditions should consult with a qualified medical professional before embarking on a plan of walking or any other exercise regimen.

Once an individual gets used to regular walks, he or she can tweak the experience by adding ankle or wrist weights, holding dumbbells or walking on an incline.
