|Infographic: Cancer Causing Chemicals, Agents|
It is estimated that there are about 84,000 chemicals and toxins on the market today, many of which are in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the personal care and household cleaning products that we use, and in various other objects that we come into contact each and every day. Without even realizing it, we ingest, inhale and absorb them through our skin.
Only a small percentage of these chemicals have been tested for human safety.
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, as many as 113 agents are known to be carcinogenic, another 66 are probably carcinogenic and 285 are possibly carcinogenic to humans.
But, with such a small percentage of chemical agents actually having been tested, we really do not know the extent of health risks of exposure to the tens of thousands that haven't been tested.
In view of these circumstances, the advisable thing for us to do is to limit our exposure as much as possible.
While some things are beyond our direct control, there are many ways that we can immediately minimize our exposure. These include the following (as this Infographic illustrates):
✔ Eat organic foods
✔ Remove dental mercury fillings
✔ Make our own or use natural deodorants, toothpastes, mouthwash, shampoo and other personal care products
✔ Make our own or use natural laundry detergents and other home cleaning products
✔ Avoid using the microwave
✔ Limit cell phone use
