Obesity and Cancer - What You Need To Know
Updated Infographic from the AICR
This infographic from the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) addresses the relationship between obesity and cancer.  According to the AICR, after not smoking, the most important thing you can do to prevent cancer is to maintain a healthy weight.

Numerous research and studies confirm that overweight and obesity increase the risk for at least eight types of cancers including:

checkmark. 16 red Esophageal Cancer
checkmark. 16 red Gallbladder Cancer
checkmark. 16 red Kidney Cancer
checkmark. 16 red Colorectal Cancer
checkmark. 16 red Post-Menopausal Cancer
checkmark. 16 red Pancreatic Cancer
checkmark. 16 red Ovarian Cancer
checkmark. 16 red Endometrial Cancer

The AICR estimates that excess body fat (including belly fat) is a cause of approximately 120,400 cases of cancer in the U.S. each year.  Yet 7 in 10 Americans are currently overweight or obese and less than half of all Americans are even aware of the obesity-cancer link!

Like so many leading experts who advise us to lower our risk for cancer by adopting healthier lifestyle changes, the AICR also advises to protect ourselves by:

checkmark. 16 red moving more, i.e., adopting a regular exercise routine and otherwise becoming more physically active
checkmark. 16 red eating smart, i.e., eating a mostly plant-based, whole food diet with 2/3 or more of the diet being vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans.  See The New American Plate for Weight Loss, Chronic Disease and Cancer Prevention.
